Join me for a step by step tutorial on how to sew a medical face mask with filter pocket and nose wire. There is a huge shortage of face masks for the medical community and these diy face masks could really help.

Make sure to check with your local hospital for guidelines on what kind of masks they need and if they are accepting donations.

UPDATE 4/4 I am being told that HEPA filters contain fiber glass and you shouldn’t put them in masks. Do your own research on that.

These won't prevent you from contracting a virus. N95 masks should be used whenever possible. But these say they will filter small particles. If you are making them for personal use, I think these filters would be great, but if you are making them for hospitals, check with them before you put any filters in the pockets!

SUPPLIES MENTIONED IN THIS TUTORIAL:
-100% cotton fabric 15" long by 8.5" wide -

-Nylon bands:

-1/4" or 1/8" elastic(
Pipe Cleaners:
-Nylon bands:
-Needle and thread:
-Scissors:
-Sewing machine(or you can hand sew these!)
-Iron

*notes:
1)The pocket hole can be made larger to fit a regular surgical mask inside.
