Baptist Church service in Germany leads to more than 40 infections. In the church where the infections occurred, this area has been allowing church services under special guidelines, including asking worshipers to keep five feet apart and requiring churches to have disinfectant readily available. The church has since moved its weekend services, which are held in German and Russian, back online. There are relatively few Baptist churches in Germany, and many people came to the church from other cities and in a city about 15 miles east of the church, 17 new coronavirus infections were traced back to the church service. In other states reopening has also been happening at different levels:I n Minnesota, Gov. Tim Walz said he would allow houses of worship to open this week. In New York, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said that gatherings of up to 10 people would be allowed, provided that social-distancing protocols were followed. In Florida beaches were packed for Memorial Day. A county beach safety official, Andrew Ethridge, told the Dayton Beach News-Journal Online in Florida. “Without a doubt, this is one of the busiest weekends I’ve seen in many years,” “We have 47 miles of beach in Volusia County and every bit of it has crowds.” And people were not wearing masks. Interesting news with testing and tracking the number of virus cases: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is combining tests that detect active infection with those that detect recovery from Covid-19. Essentially what this means is that they are using data from antibody tests and data from active virus tests. However scientist say that this data should never be mixed when trying amount of active disease in the population. Using both of these tests actually muddies the picture of the pandemic but raises the percentage of Americans tested when actually some people are just counted twice (for example if they have the virus but they also have the antibodies in their system). While we are all waiting for our second stimulus check congress is taking a recess for Memorial Day weekend. President Trump arrived at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va. This was his first visit to one of his privately owned courses since the coronavirus outbreak intensified in early March. This is important because the president’s return to one of his properties signals to the country permission to resume normal activities, even though he was in a region that has the highest rate of coronavirus cases in the nation
New Stimulus Check:
To date, the IRS has delivered stimulus checks to approximately 152 million individuals with a total dollar amount of $257.9 billion. Based on this alone it is a great sign for another stimulus package. In the cares act$300B was designated for direct stimulus payments and as we spoke about in yesterdays video Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stressed to President Trump that the next coronavirus relief package cannot exceed $1 trillion, and should be narrowly focused on getting money in people's hands immediately. Good news in the senate: Some Republicans in the senate are speaking pushing for to take action action and draw up details for a new economic relief bill.
