Today is my 52nd birthday πŸŽ‚ And honestly, I feel lost... Today is my 52nd birthday and I woke up feeling pretty lost. Birthdays aren’t always about surprises, presents, cake, and laughter. Sometimes they are about breakdowns.

This has been a year of tremendous change and upheaval in my professional and personal life. For whatever reason, all that change came crashing down on me like a tidal wave this morning. I woke up feeling sad, overwhelmed, disconnected and lost. I know what I am experiencing are waves of grief. When you experience this much change, there’s no avoiding the emotional rollercoaster. At times I feel like I’m trapped between two lives- my old life that’s ending and a future one that I haven’t created yet.

Reinvention is a topic that is going to be hot for the next year because we are all being forced to pivot. Something is ending for you in 2020. It may be a relationship, a job, a chapter of your life, the place you used to live, or it might be letting go of who you used to be. All of this shedding is necessary. You must let go of what was to create room for what's meant to be. It’s true. So, cue the quotes about lemons and lemonade, and difficult seasons, or as my sister-in-law likes to joke, “good luck making chicken salad out of this chicken shit.”

Here’s what I want you to know: Reinventing yourself is also terrifying.

So, if you are riding this emotional reinvention roller coaster with me please allow yourself to feel what you need to feel and do not pretend to be happy. No one can change your life and how you are feeling but you. You need to learn how to feel this hard shit and hold your own hand through moments of change. Self-acceptance and self-awareness are key. Feel what you need to feel, and then there are a few simple things you can do to pick yourself up every day. I explain them in this video. But most of all, don’t give up on your dreams. You can be two things at once… You can be sad and you can still fight for your dreams. Be a sad fighter. But continue to fight. Fighting for your dreams means fighting for yourself.
